“This new exhibition by sisters Jane and Alison Porter emphasises the importance that drawing plays for both of them. Alison will be exhibiting original prints that are all derived from drawings, while Jane will be showing mostly drawings and some prints.

Jane and Alison grew up in Ealing, West London. Jane is currently based in Wimbledon and Alison has lived and worked in Swansea for many years. Both sisters use drawing extensively in their work. Originally a journalist, Jane completed an arts Foundation in Wimbledon earlier this decade and a Masters in Illustration at Kingston. She works in two and three dimensions – at a recent London show she exhibited drawings, prints and 3 dimensional work designed to be moved around by visitors. She has also produced animation and textiles using collage and drawings. Alison completed an arts Foundation in Swansea alongside her career as a researcher in the School of Medicine at University of Wales, Swansea. She is interested in drawing for its own sake and in her prints she exploits the balance between the control afforded by drawing, knowing what you want to do, and the randomness of what happens in the printmaking process, the unpredictability of it. As well as using drawing as a starting point for print, she is absorbed by changing scale and colour, adding layers to the original image, and repetition.

Alison has exhibited in Swansea, Pembrokeshire and London. Jane has exhibited in a number of galleries in London and this will be her first exhibition in Wales.”
