Total Ams, self described as “a diy swansea-based collective trying to inject some life into a dull and stale music scene”, are putting on their second gig this week at The Schooner in Swansea Marina, right by the nice big hotel off the Monopoly box.
Headlining the night are Aotea, with support from Javafuss , Dead Wolves and Dustvine. Expect noisy, jazzy, prog rock.
If you’ve ever moaned about Swansea’s dull music scene it is compulsory to attend otherwise the ghost of Dylan Thomas will descend from the heavens and smite you from this earth… or something.
If you don’t know where The Schooner is, have a look at this map. The gig takes place on Saturday 7th July at 8:30pm and entry is £4.
HAHAHAHAHAHA
Benjy mate – I’m actually pissing myself with your review. Bravo.
Has anyone been to one of these guys gigs yet? I really wanna go, but stuck ion Bristol till Sunday + there is the very stiff competition of Sin Citys awesome DnB night, I wanna be back in Swansea this weekend!!! :(_
All those who are there are very very very lucky people.
Thanks Dan, although its really more of a preview ;) there are lots of clashes with gigs this weekend unfortunately. I suppose we should be grateful.
Oh i should add, if you’re going to another gig on Saturday and you cant make this one then that is a valid excuse and you will not die.
£4, try injecting the crappy music scene with some gigs that people can afford to go to! i saw the decemberists for £5 for crying out loud!
tyron
4 quid isn’t that expensive for a gig is it? Especially considering there are 4 bands playing – 1 pound a band – I’d say that’s value, compared to what you would pay to get into a club.
How much did we used to charge for our gigs Benj?
Seems fair to me.
Like Dan says, you have to pay 4 bands plus the organiser and the venue i guess. Im sure it can be done cheaper but when you compare it to the price of a drink or two it doesnt seem that bad does it?
I shall hopefully show for this. And £4 is pushing it in a way, but that said i know how much just putting on a gig can cost in this town, and with the general apathy you are usually met with (especially if you are actually trying to put on something genuinely different and interesting) sometimes it cannot be avoided. Should I show i won’t be complaining…
nd complain I didnt, and not bad it was.
Yeah i really enjoyed it. All the bands were great, but Aoteo really stood out with their raw energy. It was disappointingly quiet tho. Maybe next term will be better!
PS. By quiet i mean in terms of how many people turned up, not the sound!
